Dr. Chad Teeters, Chief Cardiology Highland Hospital Speaking on Plant-Based Foods For Heart Health

Part 1: Chief Cardiologist at Highland Hospital speaks on Plant-Based Nutrition for The Prevention and Reversal of Heart Disease

Dr. Chad Teeters, MD, is the chief cardiologist at Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY, and Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the University of Rochester.  Dr. Teeters will present the health benefits, specifically cardiac, in transforming to a plant-based diet. Dr. Teeters began his own plant-based journey in the spring of 2016 while attending “A Plant-Based Diet: Eating for Happiness and Health,” a 6-week 12-CME course given at Highland Hospital. As of this writing, Dr. Teeters has lost 80+ pounds, his blood pressure was 173 systolic and is now 115-120,  and is feeling better than ever! The course was taught by Rochester Lifestyle Medicine’s Dr. Ted Barnett. Dr. Teeters will present on the medical profession’s short sighted philosophy that patients will not live a plant-based lifestyle. Dr. Teeters counters, we must give patients the information, and allow them to make informed decisions.

Dr. Teeters joined the Highland Hospital Cardiology Division in 2009 as the Chief of Cardiology, and currently serves as the Governor of the New York chapter of the American College of Cardiology. He holds advanced certification in vascular ultrasound and interpretation and has a special interest in peripheral arterial disease. He also specializes in non-invasive cardiology including echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiography and nuclear cardiac imaging. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease.

Part 2: The Food, Transforming Your Kitchen Into a Plant-based Healing Ground

Jessica Meyers Altman, of Garden Fresh Foodie, will present how to take the medical and scientific literature and turn it into reality in your kitchen. Jessica will present how to build a plant-based pantry, food staples, and provide samples of plant-based dishes for improved health.
